Petroglyphs and zodiacs

The expanded jubilee crew headed south down the chain of Lofoten islands to see more of this stately landscape and visit a set of cave paintings left by local inhabitants here between 3,000 and 4,000 years ago.

We sped across calm seas in a zodiac boat under the gaze of ancient fjords and sea eagles stopping at the sites of abandoned fishing villages and the famed Maelstrom - a narrow channel of water with a massive tidal exchange - imagining what it must have been like to fish there in row boats a hundred years ago.

The paintings were in a cave in a cove painted by someone before the Buddha was born. Still here. Still speaking human to human.

We live. They lived. People will keep living.
