The World Cup

We started watching the World Cup soccer games a few weeks ago on Terschelling but now we are down to the semi-finals! It's like we adults have all been gripped by a strange new passion: "When's the game tonight?" "We need to be back in time to watch Brazil/Belgium this afternoon."

Dave is a excited about it because his brother Tobin (hi Tobin) is an avid 'football' fan, and also he's done with the NFL, and I am excited because it is, of course, so international!

We were rooting for Argentina, Senegal and Brazil early on, then Mexico. All of them have now been bested by the final four, France, Belgium, England, and our fave, Croatia!

Croatia beat Russia (boo, hiss, we hate Putin) on the FINAL tie-breaking kick! Whew! It's proving to be a fun way to organize our days--getting to the games and sitting in the tiny local restaurant in Stamsund with some Belgians, and then some Russians, and a Korean woman with a Swedish husband.

The Germans we know say France will take it all the way. But we like Croatia and Belgium. See you on the pitch.

Adrian is aghast by a play in Sweden / England match.
